I know we don’t want to hear it but summer is coming to a close which means skin care needs are about to change dramatically.

Depending on the climate in which you live and the elevation of your city skin will require different care.

Some basic rules are about moisturizers:

1. The higher your elevation the more moisture you will require; due to the thin air at higher altitudes the skin will dry out quite quickly. Extra lubrication will be needed. Products listed as “night creams” often provide more lubrication and work perfectly fine as day creams for these climes.

2. As winter approaches exfoliate the skin. I am not a fan of manual scrubs but any moisturizer with an AHA or BHA component is great. I avoid them in the summer but they are great to use in the colder, drier months.

3. Apply moisturizer when the skin is wet. When the skin is slightly damp the transdermal migration is rapid and deeper than applying to dry skin. You will get more benefit by applying moisturizer while the skin is still slightly damp from the shower.

4. Serums are not required! If your regular moisturizer is not fulfilling the job don’t be fooled into buying a serum to “boost” the moisturizer. Just buy a moisturizer with more slip. 

5. Sunscreen – don’t forget the importance of sunscreen. Jst because summer is over does not mean sunscreen is optional. Sun damage happens even in the depths of winter.

6. Read the labels – avoid any product with alcohol, alcohol SD, alcohol denat., these will all dry out the skin dramatically.

Each season I travel across Canada and the United States doing make up events for all my retail partners. It is my favourite part of my job. I love meeting the people who read my blog, buy my products and who have questions about beauty care.

I have met many members of the Yummy Mummy Club at these appearances and am looking forward to meeting more of you this Autumn.
