Paying US Merchants With A Canadian Credit Card

You pull up to a gas station on your drive through Michigan, scan your credit card at the pump and are asked for your zip code...

You try '000000' — no luck...

You try '12345' — no luck...  What to do?

If you go inside and pre-pay you have to guess how much money you want to put on your card to fill 'er up...

There is a little known trick recently implemented by Canadian credit card cmpanies that will let you by-pass this little quirk of U.S. merchants (I've even managed to use it for some online purchases that require a U.S. zip code — but not every one).

Simply take the numbers from your Canadian postal code and add two zeroes to the end.

For example: Postal code M2R 3E8 would be entered as zip code 23800

or, postal code M5A 1M4 would be entered as zip code 51400

Give it a try — you'll be filled up and on your way in no time!

Gav is happiest when cooking for a hungry crowd. Cleaning up afterwards - not so much.
