There’s just something about television that draws me in all the time. In my busy working-mom-life, it’s a nice end-of-day distraction where I get to meet up with some of my favourite personas and not think too hard about the millions of things I have to accomplish at work AND at home. By extension, it’s also quite fun to follow the celebs on my favourite shows too. I mean, they’re in my house at least once a week, right?
Some of my living room’s most regular guests also happen to be some of the most stylish celebs around. Here are a few of my faves.
Matt and I have made a decision recently. We are going to go out twice a month. Hopefully, one of those outings will always be to the movies...and then I can tell you if said movies are worth getting the sitter for. You see, dating your partner is really important and getting out, even if it's only once a month, should be something sacred, right?
Ah, summer. A chance to catch up with our favourite shows we may have missed during the regular season (in rerun), staying cool in the theatre with the latest blockbuster and playing outside with our kids. But one thing that happens every single summer is what I consider to be the worst fashion accessory—the deep, dark tan.
Oh Dads. The unsung heroes in the fight against the boogey man. The toy fixers. The rough and tumble warriors. The best dudes to nap with ever. This weekend is Father's Day, so I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the Dads I think are doing it right in Hollywood.
News broke last week that 19-year-old Miley Cyrus is now engaged to her 22-year-old fiance Liam Hemsworth (brother of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth). The first thought that crossed my mind was IS SHE OUT OF HER MIND? That was immediately followed by WHERE THE HELL IS HER MOTHER? If I told my mother that at 19, I planned on being married, she would have taken off her hard-bottomed slipper and whacked me with it (Greek mothers are notoriously tough). Miley's parents are "over the moon!" But why?
Last week, I got the chance to sit down on the phone and chat with Challen Cates, star of Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush (parents of teens and pre-teens will know her as Mrs. Knight on the show) . Cates is lovely to chat with and we talked about everything from the show, BTR to motherhood and the pressure to stay gorgeous in Hollywood.
When I first heard about E.L. James' 50 Shades of Grey it was about how this lone woman writing Twilight fanfic managed to rename Edward and Bella (Christian and Anastasia) without getting sued and that the book was full of BDSM. As someone who likes to read fantasy novels, I totally understand the appeal of just falling in love with characters and situations where the writing isn't great.
Friday Night's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson had Jason Alexander as a guest. During the off-the-cuff banter that Craigy-Ferg is known for, George Costanza himself made a jab at Cricket as being a "pretty gay" sport. He went on to flounce around the stage in an effeminate and mocking way. After getting a pretty harsh reaction from some twitter followers, Alexander took to the net to apologize.
This past weekend, Star Trek Live opened here in Toronto at the Ontario Science Centre. So, of course, being a huge Trekkie (not Trekker...Trekkie), I jumped at the opportunity to check the show out, bring Henry to the OSC and MEET A FREAKING VULCAN!
Sigh. Another day, another insane tabloid report. This one claims that Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore may have reconciled. This past weekend, they both attended their Kabbalah Rabbi's 40th birthday party, where guests said they had a very long (60 seconds!) embrace when they saw each other. It was also reported that Demi sat and stared at Ashton like "...a lovesick puppy."
I'm not sure if you guys caught this earlier this week, or saw my tweet, but the Silver Fox himself, Mr. Anderson Cooper had Sarah Burge on his show. She is a notable face in the UK as she's appeared on many daytime chat shows as well as in many gossip rags as "Barbie Mom"—because she's a big fan of plastic surgery and is trying to emulate the iconic doll.
This week, news surfaced that Hilary Duff has told her husband, Mike Comrie that because he's officially retired from sport, she expects him to stay at home and raise their son Luca while she works. The source of this news added that Mike feels like "a slave" and that Hill has "trained" him while she "goes to lunch and auditions every day!"
I don't know about you guys, but I'm super excited about Disney/Pixar's latest—Brave.
Set in the Scottish Highlands and centered around Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald)—the headstrong daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson)—this is a story about a girl coming to terms with tradition and challenging her fate, while using her skills to save the day (She's an archer! Pretty darn cool, if you ask me).
We had a date this past Friday night to check out some friend's play at a teeny tiny bar in Kensington Market here in Toronto, and they do some fun covers! (They invited me up to sing Sloan's One Chord to Another.)
They pulled out a Lady Gaga Melody cover, which they have a video for and I think you guys will love. Crank it up and enjoy this beautiful holiday Monday!
This week's SNL was a season finale episode extraordinare that pulled out all the stops: Mick Jagger hosting and singing with TWO different bands (more on that in a moment), John Hamm and an SNL Digital Short: Lazy Sunday 2.
Some thoughts:
- The departure of Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudekis and Andy Samberg after this season will be a devastating loss as all three are integral and wildly funny.
- Win Butler of the Arcade Fire is a ballsy dude. He wore the red badge associated with the protesters in Montreal - who are loathed by many Quebecers.
I’m pretty sure that celebrities are handed almost everything they could want on a silver platter – including stylists who know what they are doing and what clothes look right on what people. If they don’t, well, they’re not very good stylists, are they?
Case in point? Kristen Stewart. Sometimes, Kristen is an absolute hit. But it’s so rare that I’m always shocked and surprised – as seen here in this Preen FW 2012 dress this past week during her UK press junket for Snow White and the Huntsman.
