Ah, Fan Expo. Nothing like a convention centre filled to the brim with everything from Star Trek to The Watchmen and every single imaginable steam-punk thing in between. I got a chance to chat with Event Coordinator, James Armstrong (no relation) about what's happening this year at the event, and I was surprised at just how family-friendly they strive to make the weekend. James said, "At Fan Expo Canada, we strive to entertain families.
I got an amazing response last month to my blog post about fat-shaming and pro-ana websites. But of course, it seems like hot on the heels of that, someone will always take the opposite view.
This week, in Toronto, it's Fan Expo time! I'm super excited for a number of different reasons (one of which is the fact that some of the best Star Trek people are gonna be there). But, we've also made the decision to go Friday morning with H.
With school rapidly approaching, many of us are starting to look at what extracurricular programs we can put our kids into that will provide them with stimulation as well as a sense of accomplishment. Sometimes it's swimming, and sometimes it's dance. And every once in a while, we think that our kid might just have that oomph, that wow factor that could put them into the movies.
Last night, my dear friend Ari and I went to see Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it's got the right mix of comedy, drama and magic that is a perfect little piece for both kids and adults.
Ah, baby names. There is very little more jarring than hearing awful baby names. Our first thoughts are always "poor kid!" followed quickly by "WTF?" And while some are just too bizarre for words (Halcyon and Astala, anyone?), some celebs are getting it right while others are, in my humble opinion, being strange for strange's sake.
I might accuse you of living under a rock if you haven't heard about the "scandal" around Kristen Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. But I sat and waded through all the news pieces over the last two weeks and something always smelled fishy. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. But then it hit me.
Heya. So, Matt, Henry and I went to glorious, do-nothing Fort Erie this weekend where we slept until 8:30 EVERY day (M's parents took care of Henry every morning), spent an entire afternoon in the pool and generally lazed about. But, just because there was a civic holiday in Ontario (Simcoe Day!) and a bunch of awesome ladies were in NYC for Blogher12, that didn't mean that the gossip wheels stopped turning.
Last week, the Mississauga Independent Film Festival (MIFF) held it's opening party gala at the Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM). Of course, since our blog-friend and name-twin Kat Inokai had the inside scoop on the invite, I jumped at the chance to go with!
And since Kat and I are hatching our master plan, this was a perfect chance for us to walk the red carpet and photo-op....
So, just an update for you guys. This situation has gone from bad to OMGWTFBBQSVU.
A Los Angeles judge Friday, ordered an investigation into the well-being of Jacko's three kids (Paris, Prince—aka Royal—and Blanket), and that matriarch Katherine is handing guardianship over to Tito Jackson's adult son, TJ.
Judge Mitchell Beckloff ordered that each of the children be interviewed separately and that the ONLY person who gets to see the interviews is the judge himself. No lawyers. No plaintiffs. No one.
The opening weekend of The Dark Knight Rises was marred by some pretty gruesome stuff, but the star of the film really showed how awesome The Batman can be. This tragedy has shadowed possibly the best big-budget movie I've ever seen, and I really hope you get out there soon to show your support for this movie and its great stars.
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to chat with Chelsea Houska, 20-year-old mum and one of the stars of MTV's Teen Mom 2. Being a mum is hard work at any age, and I'm often a little disappointed with the way some of the girls on the show act. But then I remember, they really are "babies having babies."

How did you get involved with the producers of Teen Mom?
Jackson Family Saga! Apparently some of MJs siblings are fighting with their parents over the future of Paris, Prince, and Blanket. There was a crashing of the gates, questions of who should legally be raising the three kids and the administration of MJ's sizable estate. There are a lot of questionable pieces to this puzzle, so let me try and get us all sorted here because this is beyond weird.
I've been swirling this around in my head trying to figure out how or what to say about this site. I wasn't even sure I should post the link because who wants to give traffic to this woman? BUT, I think it's really important that I do because everything about her, including her "apology" post (the most recent on the site currently) is really dangerous for young women and men.
So many dates lately! The mister and I were lucky enough to get passes for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival's summer screenings this year, and were able to check out a double feature of Joseph Khan's Detention and V/H/S, a multi-director found footage fright fest.
It was less than two weeks ago when we got news of Katie Holmes' surprise divorce filing in NYC to her mega-star husband Tom Cruise. There's been SO much speculation around this, I wanted to try and get all our ducks in a row for one nice, neat roundup as news today says that the couple havealready settled.
I know, I know. Date night? Really? Well, yes and no. Yes, if you've got a dude who loves film and understands subtext. No if your mister thinks that this is a movie SOLELY about stripping or that it's a comedy. I know this is a movie that my husband will really enjoy, but for this date, I went with my two besties, Ari & Jessy.
I am sick. Possibly dying. Or maybe something died in my chest. Yet here I am, plugging away and sitting on these thoughts that have been driving me mad the last little while. It all started a few weeks ago when my friend Arianne and I were talking about all the gorgeous dads in La-la-land in prep for my Father's Day post. So many hot men. Bruce Willis came up, and we mentioned that his younger wife recently had a baby. A new (and handsome) Dad at 57. He even tweeted a lovely photo:
