So, as you've probably already heard, both Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian are pregnant. This is huge news—and not just because that means that Hailey Eisen and I are in good pregnancy company.
As the year is drawing to a close FAR FASTER than I even anticipated, I thought we could take a moment and talk about some of the crazy stuff that happened this year. From Beyonce being accused of not carrying her own child, to plastic surgery nightmares, 2012 was no slouch. Here are some of my favourite stories from this past year. Maybe some of yours made my list!
For those of us in Canada, Boxing Week is upon us. Sales, deals and steals abound both online and in stores. For those of us that are pregnant, there's no better way to stock up on some pregnancy friendly fashion without breaking the bank—and we can look just like the celebrities do when they're pregnant!
It was so great to be invited to a YMC event just before Christmas and catch up with a bunch of other yummy mummies this Wednesday to see Parental Guidance starring Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marissa Tomei. I haven't had a stomach for much since the horrific events last week in Newtown, CT and really needed to get out and catch up with some friends before this crazy year comes to an end.
It's that time of year again—awards season! The Golden Globes are kicking it off—as per usual—this January, with awards for both film and television, on Sunday, January 13.
Star Trek. My favourite thing of all time. Star Trek: The Next Generation (or TNG from here on out) is my favourite thing that was ever on TV. Notice how I didn't say best, but favourite. Both my mum AND dad loved OS (the original series) so much, that we grew up watching every single one of those episodes. Mum was always for Kirk, and I, I'm a Picard girl. Of all the movies, I have to say, First Contact is my favourite one. Hell, I've been trying to get a chance to meet Sir Patrick Stewart for YEARS. I could die happy.
So, I think we are all pretty excited about the Les Mis phenomenon that's finally hitting the big screen in about 20 days, right? Right? Well, last night, there was a premiere event in London and the "fashion" was something else. Anne Hathaway has been famously going on and on about how she starved herself for the role and about how now she's worried that she's either not skinny enough for Hollywood or too skinny for herself (more on that another time). Her dress last night was, um....something entirely bizarre if you ask me.
In another round of "I couldn't make this up even if I tried," I'm sure that by now, you've all heard of Lilo's catfight at an NYC nightclub last week. Hot off the heels of the most incredible reviews I've ever seen for a made-for-TV-movie, Lilo oops! did it again—this time, punching a woman in the face in a nightclub after a Justin Bieber concert. And just today (Monday) the IRS have seized ALL of her assets. But it doesn't end there.
When I was pregnant the first time*, I had a little blog where I tracked my outfits (which I mostly use to reblog cute things on Tumblr now) because man, pregnancy "fashion" is kind of the worst. Well, not really the worst but maternity stores in Canada make it really hard for us to feel nice and look great while pregnant and otherwise feeling terrible about our growing bellies.
This one is a doozy. On November 20, a court awarded former The Price is Right model Brandi Cochran $777,000 in a suit that claims that she was discriminated against and then fired for becoming pregnant while working on the show. The whole thing is shocking and brutal but the pay out? Wowee. I think my jaw hit the floor when I first saw that number. And yes, you are reading that right. It's over $700,000. I feel like that's not enough punishment for the producers of the show.
News today is that Blossom and Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik is divorcing her husband of nine years. The couple have two young sons together. The LA Times broke the story and asked first and foremost if Attachment Parenting had a part to play in the divorce. FIRST AND FOREMOST. Bialik, as you may remember, recently wrote an AP book and was snapped breastfeeding her toddler on the NYC subway system.
For those of you too busy watching Dexterjump the shark or Rick go banana-cokoo on The Walking Dead, I'd like to point you toward's last night's American Music Awards.
I recently came across a press release from Match.com informing me that the Edward vs. Jacob thing was still going on in Canada and that they'd done a survey asking single Canadians what type of supernatural creature they would prefer to date. Yes, really, I'm not making that up. We're asking single men and women if they would prefer to date vampires or werewolves. This leaves me with so many questions.
The last time I went to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament was for my birthday about four or five years ago. There was a large group of us, we drank too much and had a good time. I couldn't tell you, though, for the life of me how the show was. I barely paid attention. Last week, we got a chance to go to the grand re-opening of Medieval Times with a new stage show and expanded menu so we jumped at the chance.
I read an article on the Huffington Post this week about a recent interview where Oscar nominated, Emmy winning actress Melissa McCarthy lamented on how regardless of the fact that she's very physically active, she can't lose any weight to be skinnier than she is. This made me feel sad because she IS healthy, she IS beautiful, and she IS very successful.
I do not hide my love for Victoria Beckham. While she's not my favourite Spice Girl (that honour goes to Baby), she's certainly one of my favourite style icons. She and I have the same style motto: If you get your boobs out, put your legs away and vice versa. This weekend, it has been reported that Mrs. Beckham has spent a total of $8,000 on her daughter Harper's wardrobe. In just 15 months of life. While I have no problem with people spoiling their kids, I do wonder what she's doing with the clothing when she's done.
So, Hef had his annual Playboy Halloween party over the weekend—a party filled with all sorts of celebrities, booze, possibly sex and well, The Grotto. One celebrity in attendance was Fraiser's Kelsey Grammer along with his new wife Kayte Walsh and their newborn daughter Faith. Yep. You heard that right, newborn. My head is shaking furiously at this one especially because I'm a firm believer in not letting your life change TOO much when having a baby, but as the "responsible" adult, dad should draw the line somewhere.
So, as I'm sure you're already aware, JT and Jessica Biel got married two weeks ago, but the big buzz was around a supposed video shown at the wedding. Well, Justin was quick to react and his response was surprising.
As I'm sure you're all aware by now, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel tied the knot last weekend at the Borgio Engazia resort in Southern Italy. The wedding reportedly cost the couple 6.5 million dollars. I'll let that settle for a moment. 6.5 million. Dollars. For a wedding. The bride wore cotton-candy pink (Giambattista Valli and as a pink-bride myself, I loved it), the groom wore custom Tom Ford and Justin apparently serenaded his bride with a yet-to-be-released song as she walked down the aisle (please let this part be true! More singing Justing please!).
NYCC (New York Comic Con) is one of the premiere events on the calendar of fandom events throughout North America. For the uninitiated, cons (conventions) are just a place where dorks and nerds dress up in costume and spend a boatload of money on collectibles. For those of us in the know however, cons are a place to meet fellow fans, get a leg up and learn about the new product and shows coming in our favourite genres. But there's always been a darker bit that no one really talks about. Fans like to dress up in costumes (Cos-play or Costume Play) at these conventions.
